Architectural acoustics consulting; how does it work?
If you choose to work with me as an acoustical consultant, this is how we would work.
Nearly every project begins with information gathering -- beginning, usually, with a phone conversation. Or you may first contact me by e-mail.
Then we meet. I may travel to your site to take acoustical measurements. I will study drawings, perhaps create a computer model.
After that, you will receive a detailed report. In a simple project, this may be all you need. In more complex projects this report will contain enough information for you to make decisions about how to integrate acoustics into the project. This is important because architectural acoustics always affects budget.
The earlier you engage me in a project, the more valuable this information will be, allowing you to integrate acoustics with the other aspects of the project.
Some people are terrified that an acoustical consultant will come in like a little tyrant, tear the place apart and drive up costs in order to create some Taj Mahal of acoustics. Now, I am passionate about acoustical quality -- but I am a realist. You determine the level of acoustical quality. I merely provide specific information (and encouragement).
Further refinement and follow up vary a great deal from project to project -- depending on the nature of the project and the level of acoustical quality that is appropriate for your project.
Here is a scope of service for a typical performance space or house of worship:
