Williamsport High School - Williamsport, PA
Before renovation, this high school auditorium was virtually unusable because of high levels of noise from air conditioning fans located within the audience chamber. The renovation design focused on noise control, and the provision of strong early sound reflections, especially for performers on stage.
An interesting feature of the original design (which we retained) is a stage completely within the audience chamber, rather than tucked into a separate stagehouse.
Now the sound is rich and clear. Performers get lots of support on stage. Ensemble is easy. It is a pleasure to play on stage. One can easily understand someone speaking on stage (unamplified) from the rear of the house.
The architects are Hayes Large of Harrisburg, PA.

"Thanks to your design, the Williamsport Area High School auditorium has been
transformed from an acoustical black hole to an exceptional performance
space. While the audience will finally be able to enjoy the true efforts of
our ensembles, it is the performers themselves that will reap the greatest
benefit. Performers can now hear all members of the ensemble while on the
stage and conductors do not have to shout to insure that everyone hears
directions.
We are ecstatic about the space!
Thank you for your effort in our behalf!"
