Avery Fisher Hall Renovation - New York, NY
View their web site
I worked on this project as an acoustical consultant for Artec Consultants in New York.
Large overhead. and side-stage sound reflectors were designed to improve on-stage hearing for the New York Philharmonic. These reflectors were modeled in clay and on the computer. We used to spend a lot of time at the office just staring at the model to imagine how sound would work in the space.
My work on this design included researching the scientific literature on stage acoustics, working with the members of the orchestra, building and analyzing acoustical models, analyzing measurements.
After the renovation, Music Director Kurt Masur called the acoustical changes on the stage of Avery Fisher Hall in New York "really miraculous."
The architect for the renovation was John Burgee, who was the architect for Avery Fisher Hall.
"After the renovation, the violins just leapt out at me. Previousy, I had been unable to hear them."
